Real tapasya lies in three things:

1. You must be truthful. Truth is the pillar to which you must always hold. Every inch of you must be truthful.
2. You must get rid of lust.
3. You must gain control over vasanas (latent impressions).
These are the main things to be observed. Real tapasya lies in the practice of these three.

People lose themselves in anger the moment their self-interest is hurt. This is what is called world, so full of selfishness.

Whenever doubts disturb the mind, hold fast to God and pray. If you can do so again and again, your conviction will become firm and invincible.

You must have a clear conception of your life's ideal. Decide now what life you want to lead. Should it be this fleeting life of transient pleasures or the everlasting life of eternal bliss?

If you give word to anybody, you must keep it, come what may. If you are doubtful whether you would be able to keep it then instead of committing yourself, simply say, "I will try."

There is infinite strength in you. Never lose faith in yourself, my boy. Good is in you; and His grace too. Have firm faith in Him.

A man who does not struggle in his life is lifeless. But he who bravely faces any obstacle that comes in his way will have the reward of everlasting peace.

To, All Members, Maharshi then read out from the Tamil version of 'Yoga Vasishta' the story of Deerga Tapasi who had two sons, Punya and Papa. After the death of the parents the younger one mourned the loss and the elder brother consoled him as follows : “Why do you mourn the loss of our parents? I shall tell you where they are; they are only within ourselves and are ourselves. For the life-current has passed through innumerable incarnations, births and deaths, pleasures and pains, etc., just as the water current in a river flows over rocks, pits, sands, elevations and depressions on its way, but still the current is unaffected. Again the pleasures and pains, births and deaths, are like undulations on the surface of seeming water in the mirage of the ego. The only reality is the Self from where the ego appears, and runs through thoughts which manifest themselves as the universe and in which the mothers and fathers, friends and relatives appear and disappear.
