The renaissance of the Hindu religion had officially begun :
Swami Tapovanam
To,
All Members,
By the end of October 1951 — some six months after he had begun his journey — Swamiji had completed his tour of India and returned to Uttarkashi.
The renaissance of the Hindu religion had officially begun :
He had witnessed firsthand the spiritual and economic degradation of his homeland, and his resolve to bring the knowledge of Truth down to the plains was even stronger.
He again approached Swami Tapovanam for his blessings to implement the “Gangotri Plan” (as he now called his “afternoon dream,” since the inspiration had dawned on him in Gangotri).
He informed his Guru that a Mr. Nanda, whom he had stayed with during his India pilgrimage, had suggested having a series of talks on the Upanishads in Pune.
Swamiji had first met Mr. Nanda in Ananda Kutir, and they had hiked together to visit an ascetic saint, Vasistha Gupta, who lived in a cave beyond the hills in Rishikesh.
“Pune! There are so many brahmin scholars in Pune!” exclaimed Swami Tapovanam.
“How will you tackle them? They will never allow a swami talking on scriptures!”
At the same time, Swami Tapovanam also knew his student well and his determination and will to serve as the Lord’s instrument.
And so, he gave his permission, but warned Swamiji, “Consider yourself lucky if you find five to six listeners for Vedänta, especially when you take the Upanishads as textbooks.”
With these very cautious words, the renaissance of the Hindu religion had officially begun.
