10 Ways to add light to life this diwali:
To,
All Members,
Everyone is now in festive mood. There is light and sparkle in the air. Celebrations are taking rounds as gifts are entering each home. Fragrance of sweetmeats and flavours of delicacies are warming hearts and bringing people together. All of this will be over soon. Or may be not...
Deepawali means a series of lamps. Lamps represent the light of happiness, knowledge and love. When life becomes a continuous series of giving happiness, sharing knowledge and dedicating love, then every day is a Diwali.
So, don't just light lamps and eat sweets. Don't just meet people and give gifts. Don't just pray for money and live in bits. Live a fuller and more meaningful diwali, do something higher. This diwali, add light to life.
Here are 10 ways to add light to life this diwali:
1. Visit/Invite someone you don't like at all and light lamps together. It's easy to spread lights to friends. But it's brilliant if you can share some light with the not-really-friend-friends!
2. Spend some time alone and list the 11 greatest wealths of your life which money can't buy. Think of where the source of all of that is. Who is the true giver of the true wealth in our lives? Thank HIM for making you richer from within!
3. Write your greatest weaknesses on pieces of paper and consciously decide to burn it all up completely this diwali. Then, actually burn each one, deciding to give up your old ways and be a new person as you watch it all turn into ashes. This won't cause pollution like the chemical crackers, but will bring more purity and peace to you.
4. Wake up early morning before sunrise and meditate on 'Tamaso maa Jyotirgamaya' - may we be led from darkness to the light. And remind yourself that the real light lies within. The light outside is a reflection of the light within.
5. Participate in gifting of knowledge by giving Gita and other such books to friends and family, and bringing light into their lives. Don't stop with giving just dryfruits and candles.
6. Host a satsang instead of a party. Food, sweets and farsan is fine. Why not serve some inspiration and knowledge too?
7. Offer what you have, to the Higher. Do some charity. Extend your blessings for a greater Cause.
8. Send anonymous gifts!! Yes, this Diwali, practice selflessness in the real sense. Why do we make diwali gifting into a give-n-take business? Don't sign your name or tuck your business-card into the gifts you send this year. Let the recipient keep guessing till next year! (and beyond!)
9. Get dramatic!! Yes, do something unusual - ACTUALLY SIT WITH EACH OF YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS ALONE for 30 minutes, hold their hand and say something amazing about them. And then sing a song or read a poem for them to express your feelings. Even if 30 minutes seem too long, just hold them and sit together. Yes! be it your son or wife or mother-in-law. Just Do it! It may sound unnatural. But when love is expressed, light spreads. Watch their faces glow this Diwali.
10. Light lamps in your home and smile a LOT! Of course, do we have to tell you even this?
Take care and have a life filled diwali.
